1) Cannes 2010 Lineup. Today the Cannes Film Festival unveiled most of their lineup for the Competition, Un Certain Regard and other screenings to be held next month. David Hudson on The Auteurs did a bit of homework for each title, posting related links and even trailers.
What am I most excited about? New films by Abbas Kiarostami, Mike Leigh, Manoel de Oliveira, Christi Puiu, and Jean-Luc Godard (with what is reportedly his final film).
Have a look at the full list of films, and see which titles and names intrigue you:

2) Unproduced screenplays by famous intellectuals. A love story involving a dwarf, by Vladimir Nabokov? Winston Churchill’s version of Napoleon, with Charlie Chaplin in the lead role? A seven hour movie on Freud, written by Jean-Paul Sartre? As uncovered by Salon and The Believer, author Elif Batuman describes seven would-be screenplays by some of the most celebrated minds of the 20th century.
3) Maddin’s latest mad-sterpiece. Guy Maddin, arguably Canada’s greatest living filmmaker (certainly its weirdest), issues his latest film, viewable on Canada’s National Film Board website. Night Mayor is the story of inventor Nihad Ademi, who harnesses the power of the Aurora Borealis in 1939 Winnipeg. Ademi uses the power to broadcast images of Canada to its own citizens from coast to coast, but in the process angers the government. The lead role is actually played by a guy named Nihad Ademi, but the truthfulness of everything else is totally up for grabs. Typical Maddin madness!
