REFLECTIONS ON FILM CULTURE

Fandor Festival Podcast Ep. 35: Director of “The Tiger Rising,” Ray Giarratana

Chris and Hooman sit down with Ray Giarratana (“Jer – a – tanna”), Director of The Tiger Rising.

Ray has been a staple in the commercial industry for over 20 years. Originally visual effects supervising high-end commercials for directors like Fincher, Bay, Fuqua (and many more guys with accents) as well as music videos for artists ranging from Michael Jackson to the latest One Direction video, Ray then moved on to directing commercials for Coca- Cola, Budweiser, Mercedes, Hallmark and many others. Ray’s always thought of himself primarily as a storyteller which led him to adapt Kate DiCamillo’s powerful book, THE TIGER RISING. In-between his writing and directing, Ray has consulted on films for many studios.

THE TIGER RISING is based off of the 2001 children’s book written by Newbery Medal winning author Kate DiCamillo. This story follows 12-year-old Rob Horton (Christian Convery) and teaches us about overcoming life’s challenges and rising above with the help of your imagination. Starring Christian Convery, Madalen Mills, Sam Trammell, Katharine McPhee, Dennis Quaid, and Queen Latifah, you can see The Tiger Rising in theaters now.
