After two teasers (1, 2) and a poster, the full trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, one of the most eagerly awaited films of 2012 (and a strong contender for the Venice Film Festival lineup), has finally arrived. The film “is said to be loosely based on the life of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, and stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lancaster Dodd, the founder of a 1950s religious movement called The Cause,” reported Adam Caparell a couple of weeks ago in a story for the New York Daily News relating the displeasure with which Scientology officials are watching this roll-out. Specifically, they’re irked that “the movie contains a scene which suggests the belief system was little more than a product of the leader’s fertile imagination.”
The Master also features Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams, and Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, who composed the score for PTA’s There Will Be Blood, is working on this one as well.
