Alain Resnais’s ‘The Life of Riley’

The Berlin International Film Festival has announced the first round of titles for the Competition and Berlinale Special lineups of the 64th edition, running from February 6 through 16. This follows last week’s batch of films slated for the Generation program.

COMPETITION

Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel (United Kingdom and Germany). With Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, F. Murray Abraham, Mathieu Amalric, and Adrien Brody. World premiere. Opening film.

George Clooney’s The Monuments Men (Germany and USA). With George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, and Cate Blanchett. International premiere. Out of competition.

Yann Demange’s ‘71 (United Kingdom). With Jack O’Connell, Sean Harris, Richard Dormer. World premiere.

Yannis Economides’s Stratos (Greece, Germany, and Cyprus). With Vangelis Mourikis, Vicky Papadopoulou, and Petros Zervos. World premiere.

Dominik Graf’s Die geliebten Schwestern (Germany). With Hannah Herzsprung, Florian Stetter, Henriette Confurius. World premiere.

Claudia Llosa‘s Aloft (Spain, Canada, and France). With Jennifer Connelly, Cillian Murphy, and Mélanie Laurent. World premiere. In 2009, Llosa won the Golden Bear for The Milk of Sorrow.

Alain Resnais‘s Aimer, boire et chanter (Life of Riley, France). With Sabine Azéma, Sandrine Kiberlain, Caroline Silhol, André Dussolier, Hippolyte Giradot, and Michel Vuillermoz. World premiere. Inspired by Alan Ayckbourn’s play.

BERLINALE SPECIAL

Pascal Chaumeil’s A Long Way Down (United Kingdom). With Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul, and Imogen Poots. World premiere.

Dayna Goldfine and Dan Geller’s The Galapagos Affair: Satan Came to Eden (USA). With the voices of Cate Blanchett, Diane Kruger, Thomas Kretschmann, Sebastian Koch, Josh Radnor, Connie Nielsen, and Gustaf Skarsgård. European premiere.

Hubert Sauper’s Entente Cordiale (We Come As Friends, France and Austria). European premiere.

The Turning. An anthology film from Australia with shorts by Marieka Walsh, Warwick Thornton, Jub Clerc, Robert Connolly, Anthony Lucas, Rhys Graham, Ashlee Page, Tony Ayres, Claire McCarthy, Stephen Page, Shaun Gladwell, Mia Wasikowska, Simon Stone, David Wenham, Jonathan auf der Heide, Justin Kurzel, Yaron Lifschitz, and Ian Meadows. With Cate Blanchett, Rose Byrne, Miranda Otto, Richard Roxburgh, and Hugo Weaving. International premiere.
