On his Weibo account (the Chinese version of Twitter), China’s master director Jia Zhangke announced his marriage to his longtime star and collaborator, actress Zhao Tao, during the Venice International Film Festival. The above picture was posted as well.
Jia discovered Zhao when she was a dance instructor in Beijing and cast her in his second feature, Platform. They have since worked together on six other features in the past decade: Unknown Pleasures, The World, Still Life, 24 City and I Wish I Knew.
We extend our heartiest congratulations to husband and wife, true partners in art and in life.
