Miami-raised, Kelly Reichardt says she wasn’t exposed to much culture growing up, but that her parents did encourage her interest in photography. That interest eventually expanded as did her mental landscape, a result of trips out West with her mother. One can definitely see that influence in Reichardt’s work, from Wendy and Lucy to Meek’s Cutoff to her latest, Night Moves, which premieres in theaters this weekend. Three passionate environmentalists (Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning and Peter Sarsgaard) have special plans for a hydroelectric dam in Oregon. I recently spoke with Reichardt and Sarsgaard about the film and how they approach their work.
