The Academy’s spread the wealth, awarding four Oscars each to Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Birdman and Wes Anderson‘s The Grand Budapest Hotel and three to Damien Chazelle‘s Whiplash. While we might have wanted to see a little more love for Boyhood, it’s nonetheless great to see Patricia Arquette take her winning streak, which began months ago, when the first critics organizations began announcing their awards, all the way across the finish line. All the winners below, in bold.
Update: Commentary on the Academy’s choices and reviews of the show: Sam Adams (Criticwire), Nigel Andrews (Financial Times), Peter Bradshaw (Guardian), Richard Brody (New Yorker), Jen Chaney (Dissolve), Robbie Collin (Telegraph), Richard Corliss (Time), David Edelstein (Vulture), Mark Harris (Grantland), Peter Knegt (Indiewire), Dan Kois (Slate), Andrew O’Hehir (Salon). Willa Paskin (Slate), Michael Phillips (Chicago Tribune), James Poniewozik (Time), Ramin Setoodeh (Variety), Dana Stevens (Slate) and Alison Willmore (Buzzfeed). And Variety‘s Justin Chang, Peter Debruge and Scott Foundas “agree to disagree.”
