The New York Film Critics Circle, founded in 1935, is the first major association of critics to announce its awards this year. And they’ve given Boyhood three of their top honors. Nice to see two going to James Gray’s The Immigrant as well.
Best Film: Boyhood.
Best Director: Richard Linklater (Boyhood).
Best Actor: Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner).
Best Actress: Marion Cotillard for The Immigrant and Two Days, One Night.
Best Supporting Actor: J.K. Simmons (Whiplash).
Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood).
Best Foreign Language Film: Pawel Pawlikowski‘s Ida.
Best Animated Film: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s The Lego Movie.
Best Screenplay: Wes Anderson and Hugo Guinness for The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Best Cinematography: Darius Khondji for The Immigrant.
Best First Film: Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook.
Best Non-fiction Film: Laura Poitras‘s Citizenfour.
Special Award: MoMA curator Adrienne Mancia.
