Great news, fellow podcast junkies. Last week, the Film Society of Lincoln Center launched The Close-Up. It’s new, it’s free, it’s weekly, and so far, there are four episodes, all recorded during last month’s New York Film Festival. “Paul Thomas Anderson and Bennett Miller separately spoke separately with NYFF Director Kent Jones, while Laura Poitras sat down with FSLC Director of Programming Dennis Lim.” Then there’s “Discussing Godard,” “a panel that includes Goodbye to Language star Héloïse Godet as well as a group of esteemed critics talking about Jean-Luc Godard‘s latest film and his overall career.”
On Filmwax Radio, Adam Schartoff talks with Frederick Wiseman about National Gallery and more (38’32”; see, too, Sam Fragoso‘s chat with Wiseman), while here on Keyframe, he talks with Josephine Decker about Butter on the Latch and Thou Wast Mild and Lovely (31’37”; and here‘s what the critics are saying about that double feature, currently screening in New York and here on Fandor).
At the Talkhouse Film, Isabelle Huppert and Kim Cattrall “look back on their friendship and discuss such topics as achieving longevity in their careers, Sex and the City, Cattrall’s new TV series Sensitive Skin, and the joys of producing.” (46’20”).

And finally for now, a recommendation for those who listen to German. Frédéric Jaeger, editor of critic.de, has been hosting occasional conversations with some of the sharpest critics in the land. In three episodes so far, and in various constellations, Lukas Foerster, Thomas Groh, Ekkehard Knörer, Nina Linkel and Cristina Nord have discussed (1) Christian Petzold‘s Phoenix and Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin (the tale of the latter’s distribution here in Germany is rather spectacular), (2) David Fincher’s Gone Girl and Olivier Assayas‘s Clouds of Sils Maria and (3) Xavier Dolan’s Mommy, Julián Hernández’s I Am Happiness on Earth and Dominik Graf and the state of television in Germany in general.
