There are many horror movies that have stood the test of time. Look at The Shining, Psycho, Halloween, The Exorcist. But Dario Argento’s Suspiria has quietly become one of the most enduring horror flicks.
While it’s not recognized by the masses or frequently referenced in pop culture, the film is a cult classic that has been enshrined in the horror hall of fame by legions of passionate cinephiles. And while this psychedelic nightmare definitely shows its age and budget constraints (the giant animatronic bat is sure to get a laugh every time), these “flaws” aren’t distracting, but rather charming and endearing. They are part of what makes Suspiria such an enjoyable ride. Combine that with the fact that it’s one of the most stylized and beautifully shot horror films ever made, and you got a witches brew of a trippy, timeless masterpiece that will haunt us forever.
