Annapurna: Conquering the Mountain

Few production companies have a staple of films as diverse as Annapurna.

What sets Annapurna apart is the quality and uniqueness of their stories — from the first film about the assassination of Osama Bin Laden, to an arthouse film about the friendship between a cult leader and a sex addict, to an R-rated cartoon about personified sausages…starting to notice a pattern? No? That’s because there isn’t one. Unless you consider the chutzpah involved in making these ideas into movies, that is. That chutzpah comes from Annapurna’s founder, Megan Ellison. This glimpse into her company’s output is startlingly diverse.

A production company develops a personality by the type and quality of films it releases, from Blumhouse’s schlock and arthouse horror offerings, commented on in our interview with “Unfriended: Dark Web” director, Stephen Susco, to A24 Just. Killing. It. A moviegoer knows what to expect (or at least hope for) when a production company’s watermark alights the screen—it’s a new age indeed.
